While i oppose severe taxation, taxes are voluntary in the sense that you bring them on yourself by voting in a representative that raises taxes. The decision to pay taxes is made on election day at the ballot box not on tax day. U.S. taxpayers still possess the power to stop paying taxes by politically repealing the sixteenth amendment and other taxes. Taxes are levied with the will of the people through the representatives. Reid's actually right on this one.

In determining what constitutes income substance rather than form is to be given controlling weight. An even exchange for anything is not gain, profit, or income.
